Four new Orillia COVID cases reported by health unit today

There are also six cases in Ramara Township, one in Oro-Medonte and one in Severn being reported today

The Simcoe Muskoka District Health Unit has reported 82 new COVID-19 cases in today's update (May 6). 

There are 1,108 active, lab-confirmed cases in the region, most of which are in Simcoe County.

The health unit has reported 3,706 variant cases confirmed to date, with 823 of those cases still active.

Since the start of the pandemic, the local health unit has confirmed 10,851 cases of COVID-19 with 9,007 of those cases recovered and 230 cases ending in death. 

There are 37 people from the region hospitalized with COVID-19, which includes three new hospitalizations since yesterday.

To date, 210, 209 people in Simcoe-Muskoka region have received their first dose of vaccination against COVID-19, which is about 33 per cent of the region's population. About three per cent of the population has received two doses of vaccine.

The new cases reported in Simcoe County and Muskoka District today include (case transmission is under investigation unless otherwise specified):

  • Orillia (4): One youth under 18 years old, two people between 35 and. 44 years old, and one person between 45 and 64 years old. Three cases are linked to close contact, and one is listed as community-acquired.
  • Oro-Medonte (1): One person between 45 and 64 years old. 
  • Ramara (6): Two youth under 18 years old, one person between 18 and 34 years old, two people between 45 and 64 years old, and one person over 79 years old. Five cases are linked to close contact.
  • Severn (1): One person between 45 and 64 years old. 
  • Collingwood (2): One person between 18 and 34 years old and one person between 35 and 44 years old.
  • Wasaga Beach (1): One person between 65 and 79 years old. 
  • Barrie (20): Six youth under 18 years old, six people between 18 and 34 years old, two people between 35 and 44 years old, two people between 45 and 64 years old and four people between 65 and 79 years old. Ten cases are linked to close contact, and three to community transmission.
  • Innisfil (6): Three youth under 18 years old, one person between 35 and 44 years old, and two people between 45 and 64 years old. Five cases are linked to close contact. 
  • Bradford West Gwillimbury (18): Four youth under 18 years old, two people between 18 and 34 years old, five people between 35 and 44 years old, and seven people between 45 and 64 years old. Four cases are listed as community-acquired, and two are outbreak-related.
  • Tiny (1): One person between 65 and 79 years old.
  • Essa (3): Two people between 18 and 34 years old and one person between 65 and 79 years old. One case is linked to close contact and one is listed as community-acquired.
  • New Tecumseth (15): Two youth under 18 years old, eight people between 18 and 34 years old, three people between 35 and 44 years old, one person between 45 and 64 years old, and one person between 65 and 79 years old. Nine cases are linked to close contact.
  • Adjala-Tosorontio (2): One person between 18 and 34 years old and one person between 45 and 64 years old. One case is linked to close contact.
  • There were two cases in Muskoka, including one in Huntsville, and one in Gravenhurst. 

 

The health unit does sometimes remove a case or move them based on further investigation of location data. The chart below reflects updated totals for each municipality as reported by the health unit on May 6).
