NEWS RELEASE
COUNTY OF SIMCOE
*************************
In recognition of National AccessAbility Week, the County of Simcoe is hosting a free tradeshow on May 28 at the County of Simcoe Administration Centre in Midhurst to raise awareness about regional accessibility services.

Join us to learn more about the range of accessibility programs and services that are available across the County.

“The County of Simcoe is a leader in providing services and supports for a range of social and community issues, including promotion of a more diverse and inclusive society,” said Warden George Cornell “Through collaborative efforts, like our National AccessAbility Week Tradeshow, we are committed to tearing down existing barriers and ensuring that every resident has an equal opportunity to participate in all aspects of life in Simcoe County.”

As well as providing accommodations for employees with disabilities, the County of Simcoe promotes an inclusive society through improved accessible programs and materials.

In September 2018, the County launched the LINX+ transit service, which provides transportation for residents who are unable to use our conventional fully accessible LINX Transit buses.

This year, accessible transportation links will be enhanced with the addition of two new LINX Transit routes. The County is also committed to creating accessible web content and producing County documents in accessible formats upon request.

More information about the range of accessible County services, including many museum, paramedic, housing and community programs, will be on display at our National AccessAbility Week Tradeshow on May 28.

In addition to County programs, lower-tier Accessibility Advisory Committees and a number of partner organizations have been invited to exhibit at the tradeshow. Entry is free and light refreshments will be served.

About National AccessAbility Week

This year, National AccessAbility Week (NAAW) is from May 26 to June 1. Every year, starting on the last Sunday in May, NAAW encourages collaborative efforts to further the development of an inclusive society.

Recognizing that through meaningful employment, resources and services, persons with disabilities are able to participate more in society and help grow our economy, NAAW aims to strengthen efforts to create a country that is fully accessible and inclusive.
