A family that has spent time giving back to the community is now in need of some help of its own.

Glenn Payne was diagnosed with leukemia in the spring. He has since undergone treatment at Orillia Soldiers’ Memorial Hospital and Barrie’s Royal Victoria Regional Health Centre. He is now at the Princess Margaret Cancer Centre in Toronto.

The avid golfer and owner of Payne Plumbing “has a lengthy stay in Toronto ahead of him,” said long-time family friend Vicky Collins. It’s become a financial burden for the family members, including his wife, Marilyn, and daughters, Ali and Kelly, who are spending as much time with him in Toronto as possible.

“He’s worked hard in Orillia all his life and he’s an all-around good guy,” said Collins.

She is encouraging people to help the family by contributing to a fund that has been created at the National Bank on Mississaga Street.

She noted Payne has taken part in multiple fundraisers in town and it would be nice for Orillians to give back by helping the family.

“He’s an excellent friend. It doesn’t matter what you need,” Collins said. “He would help anyone out.”

Those wanting to contribute to the fund can stop in at the National Bank and indicate they’d like to make a donation to the account for Glenn Payne and family.
