Comedian and TV personality Gerry Dee has been making audiences laugh for two decades and to mark the occasion he will embark on a new tour, 20 Years of Stand-Up, presented by Shopbrain.

Dee will take his trademark humour about marriage, fatherhood and his years as a teacher to 14 cities across Canada, beginning at Casino Rama Resort on March 1 and concluding on May 24 at the Sony Centre for the Performing Arts in Toronto.

“Stand-up is where it all started for me 20 years ago,” said Dee. “I’m very grateful to the fans who have supported me along the way and I look forward to celebrating this milestone with them on the tour.”

The tour will follow the eighth and final season of the award-winning sitcom Mr. D, created, written by and starring Dee. Currently airing on CBC, the show will take its final bow on Dec. 19.

Tickets for 20 Years of Stand-Up will go on sale to the general public on Nov. 30 at 10 a.m. and can be purchased at www.gerrydee.com. The AMEX pre-sale began on Nov. 28 at 10 a.m. and Live Nation pre-sale begins Nov. 29 at 10 a.m. Performances are recommended for ages 14 and older.

Though most familiar as the star, creator and one of the principal writers for Mr. D, it is in stand-up comedy where Dee first hit his mark. Dee, who was a private school teacher for nine years before giving it up for comedy, became the first Canadian in 27 years to win the prestigious San Francisco International Comedy Competition, and was a finalist on NBC’s Last Comic Standing, the highest finish by a Canadian in the history of the show.

Based on Dee’s real-life experiences as a high-school teacher, CBC’s Mr. D follows the misadventures of schoolteacher Gerry Duncan, nicknamed Mr. D, as he struggles to keep one step ahead of his students at the prestigious private school, Xavier Academy. Debuting in January 2012 to 1.23 million viewers, the program was the highest-rated scripted show premiere for the network in seven years.
