NEWS RELEASE
BIG BROTHERS BIG SISTERS OF ORILLIA & DISTRICT
*************************
Proclaimed by the City of Orillia, September is Big Brothers Big Sisters Month, a month dedicated to celebrating the power of positive mentoring!

Staff of Big Brothers Big Sisters of Orillia & District (BBBSOD) were joined by Mayor Steve Clarke and City Councillors Pat Hehn, Mason Ainsworth and Jay Fallis for their official flag raising this past Monday, Sept. 13.

Following the flag raising, BBBSOD begun their first annual Little Change for Big Change campaign, where community partners accept donations on behalf of the agency until the end of September.

BBBSOD would like to thank Melanie Robinson of Eclectic Cafe and Laura Dickson of Harvey’s Orillia for stepping up to the plate to participate! In addition to accepting donations upon check out, Harvey’s will also be donating 10 per cent of their daily proceeds on Saturday, Sept. 18 for Big Brothers Big Sisters Day!

Laura Dickson of Harvey’s Orillia is a current Big Sister with BBBSOD and has been matched with her Little Brother James since 2016. James speaks very highly of Laura and likes to tell stories of their adventures to the Zoo, Canada’s Wonderland and Santa’s Village.

“Going out with Laura means a break and having fun, having fun is the most important thing. I like going out with Laura," said James.

Melanie Robinson of Eclectic Cafe also has experience being a Little Sister, as well as a Big Sister. To spread awareness of the campaign Melanie took to Facebook and Instagram to write: "This organization has had a huge impact on my life in two ways. As a child I had a Big Sister, her name was Vera, and she was amazing!! I’ll never forget the positive change she had on my life. The second is, I wanted to pay it forward when I was older. So, when I was 25, I also became a Big Sister to a 13-year-old girl! That relationship also changed my life. I love watching the woman she’s become today and we’re still close!”

BBBSOD would like to recognize these two women as they are consistently giving back to their communities! So, don’t forget to grab a bite at both establishments and make a donation upon checkout to help support the power of positive mentoring!
