NEWS RELEASE
REPAIR CAFE
**************************
Toss It? No Way! This is the Repair Café motto.

What: Third Orillia Repair Café

When: Saturday, April 13 from 11 a.m. until 2 p.m.

Where: Geneva Event Centre, 16 West St. S., Orillia

At this pop-up community event, people are invited to bring items that are broken or need mending and volunteer "fixers" will try to repair that item.

An estimated 80 kilograms of potential waste has been saved from the landfill as a result of the Orillia Repair Café since our first event in March 2018!

We are still recruiting and confirming “fixers," but we anticipate that on Saturday, April 13, visitors will be able to get help with:

  • Bicycles
  • Computers/tech
  • General repairs
  • Jewellery
  • Sewing/fabrics/mending
  • Small household appliances
  • Toys
  • Wooden items/furniture
  • And more!

Thanks to support from Lake Country Time Trade, Geneva Event Centre, and the Green Party of Simcoe North, there is no cost to attend or have items repaired, but goodwill donations will be accepted.

Light refreshments will be available. The event will also feature some child-friendly activities.

The first repair cafe was started in Amsterdam in 2009 by Martine Postma who was feeling frustrated with societies "throw away" culture.

Repair Café events are now run across the world saving money, reducing landfill waste, cutting CO2 emissions, promoting learning and fostering community connections.
