Hewitt's work truck stolen from family farm

Truck was taken from out-building next to house; 'It's frustrating,' says family member of second incident at the farm in six months

For the second time in just over six months, thieves have hit a local family farm business.

At about 4 a.m. this morning, a pair of thieves stole a pickup truck from Hewitt's Farm Market on Town Line in Severn Township.

Trevor Hewitt, one of the brothers who helps run the family farm, said someone saw the truck driving erratically toward Orillia this morning. At the time, the person didn't know the vehicle had been stolen.

"The truck was in an out-building and they would have had to walk right past the house to get to the truck," said Hewitt. "It's frustrating ... I guess we're going to have to put cameras up everywhere. It's not something you think you would need to do there."

Last summer, bandits broke into the office part of the farm operation and stole the business' safe and the money it contained. A few weeks later, the broken safe, empty, was found at the side of a rural road.

Hewitt said it does feel like the business is being targeted. "It makes you wonder," he said.

He is hoping someone sees the stolen truck and calls polilce. It's a 2007 Chevrolet Silverado, greyish-blue in colour and has a 'Hewitts Sweet Corn' logo on its back window.

The licence plate on the vehicle is 966 6FD.

"If you see this truck please contact the police," said a tweet from the company.  "Please be aware that it is NOT a Hewitt or employee of Hewitt's driving this truck and your assistance would be greatly appreciated in our efforts to catch these bold thieves!"
