Hikers discover that spring has sprung in Port Severn

Orillia Ganaraska Hiking Club members enjoy a walk in the woods

On Saturday, the Ganaraska Trail's Orillia Club went to a piece of Muskoka bush north of Port Severn, called the 5 Winds area. The hikers were lucky to have conditions as good as they were for so late in the season, but it was a challenge for both icers and snowshoes as the day became progressively warmer with the sun turning exposed patches of snow into brown-sugar consistency. The outdoors lovers were rewarded with a hike that was a treat for the eyes, with some small patches of open ponds, and tracks of otters, moose, and even a probable bobcat! Contributed photo

The Club hikes at least weekly, and welcomes new hikers. For more information, visit the website.
