Hikers revel in woods, wilderness and mushrooms (3 photos)

This weekend, Ganaraska Hiking Club welcomes people to join them on a hike in the Simcoe County Forest

Late summer and early fall are spectacular times to hike.

Members of the Orillia chapter of the Ganaraska Hiking Club have been taking advantage of the good weather.

In recent weeks, hikers have trekked through the forest and wilderness areas of the region - from the Queen Elizabeth II Wildlands north of Orillia, to the Thomas Agnew property protected by the Couchiching Conservancy and many in between.

Over the last week, the variety and number of mushrooms the hikers have come across have been spectacular.

Want to join in on the fun? This Saturday, the club will be offering a dual purpose hike: one that is two hours and one that is 3.5 hours with a picnic lunch. Both hikes are in the Simcoe County Forest's Slessor Tract just north of Orillia.
