Holiday season marches into Orillia (18 photos)

Hundreds take in Santa Claus parade in downtown Orillia

The sounds and sights of the season permeated the downtown core Sunday afternoon.

It seemed unseasonably mild for Orillia’s Santa Claus parade, but the hundreds of participants and spectators didn’t seem to mind at all as dozens of floats worked their way along the route.

The kids were kept happy with treats, music and colourful displays as they waited for the main attraction to arrive. And, when he showed up, Santa didn’t disappoint, perched high on his sleigh behind his reindeer.

Spectators showed their generosity, too, donating to the Kiwanis Club of Orillia’s “bucket brigade,” which was collecting money to go toward next year’s parade, and to the Simcoe County paramedics’ toy drive and The Sharing Place Food Bank.
