Canadian Blood Services is reminding residents of Orillia and Simcoe County that donating blood is a meaningful way to commemorate Remembrance Day.
The relationship between Canada’s military and the blood system began with the early days of blood transfusion during the First World War and grew as Canadians donated blood to help wounded troops during the Second World War.
Members of the Canadian Armed Forces and Department of National Defence civilian employees are some of the most generous and loyal supporters of Canada’s Lifeline. In 2006, the Department of National Defence became Canadian Blood Services’ first national Partner for Life organization. Since then, they have donated over 40,000 units of blood and inspired thousands to become regular blood donors.
Donors in Orillia are encouraged to donate blood in honour of those who serve or have served our country. Donating blood is one of the most direct ways to help another person. One in two Canadians are eligible to donate blood but only one in 60 does.
This month's regular blood donor clinic will be held at the Best Western Mariposa Inn on Memorial Avenue on Thursday, Nov. 7 from 2 to 7 p.m.
For those who are unable to donate blood, or those who wish to amplify the impact of their blood donation, a financial gift to Canadian Blood Services in honour of the Canadian Armed Forces will help to strengthen our national blood donation program.
