Inquest into death of prisoner at Penetanguishene jail planned

Dr. Kenneth Peckham, Regional Supervising Coroner for Central Region, Central West Office, announced today that a date has been scheduled for the inquest into the death of Glen Kristoffersen.

Mr. Kristoffersen, 32, died on Jan. 23, 2017, while in custody at the Central North Correctional Centre in Penetanguishene.

An inquest is mandatory under the Coroners Act.

The inquest will examine the circumstances surrounding Mr. Kristoffersen's death.

The jury may make recommendations aimed at preventing similar deaths.

The inquest is expected to last seven days and hear from approximately 20 witnesses.

The inquest will begin at 9 a.m. on Monday, June 17, 2019, at the Midland Cultural Centre, 333 King St.

Dr. Mary Beth Bourne will preside as inquest coroner. Jenna Dafoe and Kate Forget will be counsel to the coroner.
