It’s time to shine those bowling shoes and help Big Brothers Big Sisters of Orillia and District (BBBS) score a strike for kids in the area.

The yearly Bowl for Kids Sake event is happening at Orillia Bowl from April 9 to 12, and follows the theme of Rock ’n Bowl, said Amanda Tevelde, community relations coordinator for BBBS.

With a minimum of $60 in pledges per bowler, participants receive two hours of bowling, food and prizing, she added.

Participants are encouraged to raise more in pledges to take advantage of the extra incentives available, said Tevelde.

Other incentives for participating include prizes for best-dressed team, decided through online voting and a chance to win getaway packages sponsored by vintage hotels in Niagara-on-the-Lake.

All funds raised by BBBS Orillia stay in the community and are used to run in-school, after-school and one-on-one mentoring services for more than 350 kids in the area.

The agency is also looking to raise funds with its WestJet raffle tickets, which are available prior to the bowling event as well as during the event.

There is a limited number of raffle tickets available: only 550, said Tevelde. That’s a one in 550 chance of winning simply with the purchase of one $20 ticket. Tickets are available for purchase by calling or visiting the agency office. The prize is air travel for two to any WestJet destination in North America.

The registration is easy with an online pledge system set up to help participants collect donations at www.bbbsorillia.ca/bowl-kids-sake. Teams can also register by calling the office at 705-325-3151 or by picking up forms at the office located on 17 Colborne St. E. in downtown Orillia.

Registration deadline is April 7.
