Judges dismiss strippers' court challenge of lockdown restrictions

An attempt by Ontario strippers to challenge pandemic lockdown measures has been dismissed by a Toronto-based panel of Divisional Court justices.

Arguments by Garden River lawyer Naomi Sayers that the forced closure of strip clubs violated their charter rights were dismissed Monday by the judges as "moot."

The justices indicated they were unwilling to exercise their discretion to hear the case.

The Ontario Ministry of the Attorney General argued that the application had little practical relevance because the original lockdown measures are no longer in effect.

Any future lockdown measures would likely be different, the province argued.

The application, representing an advocacy group known as Work Safe Twerk Safe, was dismissed by the court, with its reasons to be released at a later date.
