Kids warming up to library's winter activities (4 photos)

There's plenty to do this season at the Orillia Public Library

The Orillia Public Library is a hotbed of winter activity.

The library caters to kids and families every year during the holidays, and this year is no different, with arts and crafts, movie nights and the second annual Winter Reading Club.

More than 100 high-school-aged kids signed up for the club last year. Sarah Csekey, the library’s director of children and youth services, is hoping to at least double that number this year.

“The whole point is to build a trusted relationship with librarians and to always chat about what you’re reading,” she said.

Participants can choose what they want to read, then discuss the books with library staff and get a ballot for a prize.

The Winter Reading Club began Dec. 21 and runs until March break.

Csekey hopes it draws more interest to the already popular Summer Reading Club.

“We’re just trying to keep them coming back,” she said.

There is plenty to do at the library throughout the winter, with the next activity being the Drop-In Family Storytime Saturday at 10:30 a.m.
