Everyone knows that germs don’t stand a chance against Lysol products.

That’s why, after receiving a donation of more than five million disinfecting wipes from Reckitt, the maker of Lysol, Lakehead University is providing thousands of wipes to local organizations in Simcoe County including The Lighthouse Orillia, the Salvation Army, the David Busby Centre, Mamaway Wiidokdaadwin, the Barrie Native Friendship Centre, and more.

“We are thankful for this donation that will be distributed for use across the campus by our students, faculty, and staff,” said Dr. Dean Jobin-Bevans, Principal of Lakehead’s Orillia campus. “Additionally, we wanted to give assistance to our community by ensuring the health and safety of the individuals that access community supports and services daily.”

The Orillia Youth Centre was one of four organizations in Orillia that received the Lysol products. Disinfecting continuously throughout the day while serving youth has added an enormous expense for the centre, said director Kevin Gangloff.

“This donation will make it that much easier for us to provide our services safely and effectively,” he said. “We’re proud of the longstanding community partnership and relationship we have with Lakehead University. We thank them for everything they do to encourage and recognize the importance of community amongst the youth they serve and their staff.”

Front-line service providers across the County of Simcoe will also benefit from Reckitt’s donation.

"The County provides a wide-range of essential frontline services, and throughout this pandemic we've been so grateful to the many community partners and businesses that have stepped up to support our staff with generous donations of PPE and other medical supplies,” said Dawn Hipwell, Director of Procurement, Fleet and Property, County of Simcoe. “Thank you to Lakehead University for including the County in this donation and for helping to protect our health-care workers."

For more than a century, Lysol has been protecting families from illness-causing germs.

“We believe there is nothing more important than keeping our loved ones safe and healthy, which is why we are proud to be able to help Lakehead University in their efforts to ensure a safe back-to-school environment this winter,” said Corrie Mueller, Vice-President of Marketing – Hygiene, at Reckitt.
