OrilliaMatters received the following letter from Lynn Thomas of the Lighthouse Soup Kitchen and Shelter to thank those who supported their recent Ride for Refuge event.

***********************

About 80 participants took part in the third annual Ride for Refuge Sept. 29.

The event is a fundraiser for The Lighthouse Soup Kitchen and Shelter, which is currently housed in an aged building on Peter Street. There are plans to build a larger facility on Queen Street under the project name Building Hope.

Currently, The Lighthouse serves 25,000 meals a year, and has the capacity to house only 14 male clients. Funds raised from the Ride for Refuge goes toward its operational costs.

We would like to thank all the team captains, team members, volunteers and Ride Committee members.

We have raised just over $15,000 to date but the campaign is open until Oct. 31 for donations to your teams and the final total will be announced at the beginning of November.

We could not have accomplished this without the help of the following businesses and people:

Wagner Lawn Care
Life 100.3
KICX 106
Sunshine 89
Emmanuel Baptist Church Orillia
Orillia First Aid
Impression House
