OrilliaMatters received the following letter to the editor from Gerry Marshall, provincial Liberal candidate for Simcoe North:
Our MPP’s winter brochure headline reads, “Immediate action needed to bring jobs to Simcoe County and Ontario," and closes with, "Let’s bring jobs back to Simcoe County!" He’s inferring that businesses and investors are shying away from Simcoe North.
I can say as a local mayor and warden: Not true!
Is our MPP so disconnected that he’s lost track of the good things happening? Does he not care whom gets crushed in his pursuit to be premier?
His (brochure) undermines excellent efforts by mayors, councillors and business leaders who champion our economic causes.
Year-in-review appraisals prove we are a growing economy area:
Midland – Tens of thousands of visitors attended festivals, 15 cruise ship visits, manufacturers posted 100 job openings.
Orillia – Record year for housing starts/developments, fifth best place in Canada to invest!
Penetanguishene – $23.5 million in permits, record year for new home construction, Shoppers Drug Mart investing in new 10,000 square foot store.
Barrie – Their best economy in 10 years, companies announced unprecedented growth, unemployment lowest in Canada.
County of Simcoe – Growth of 2,800 jobs per year, 70 investment files open, nine million tourists spent $1 billion in our area.
Simcoe North’s future is positive!
Our MPP fought against the Big Yellow Duck that drew crowds of 70,000 plus and resulted in millions of tourist dollars being spent in Simcoe North. And now he’s misrepresenting our economic strength to score cheap political points.
Our communities deserve better. As MPP, I will deliver!
