Pages of Munsch book Zoom! — inspired by a young Orillia reader — will be displayed in windows of downtown businesses May 13-24

NEWS RELEASE

The Orillia Public Library is back with another Downtown Story Walk.

Manticore Books and the Orillia Public Library are partnering with several local businesses to celebrate Munsch Mayhem with Scholastic Canada.

From May 13 at 2 p.m. until May 24, families can follow the pages of the Robert Munsch book Zoom! displayed in the windows of participating downtown Mississaga Street businesses.

The first page of the story along with a Story Walk map will be posted on the windows outside the Library’s family department. The Story Walk map will also be available on the library’s website. Families who complete the Story Walk at Manticore Books during its business hours are eligible to receive a free Munsch tote bag with the purchase of two Robert Munsch books, while quantities last.

Zoom! is inspired by a young Orillia reader who noticed that there was a lack of stories featuring children who used wheelchairs. Wanting to see a character that mirrored her life, she reached out to Robert Munsch, asking him to feature a character who used a wheelchair, and Zoom! was born.

Story Walks are an interactive way for children to learn new words, describe things and events, learn how to follow a story in sequence, and move their bodies. Children are invited to take or draw a picture of their favourite part of the story or Story Walk and stop by the family department or email [email protected] to be entered to win a prize. Call the library for more information at 705-325-2559.

This Story Walk comes at a time when the weather is improving, and downtown businesses are ramping up for the summer. While following the story, families can investigate the many wonderful offerings of our vibrant downtown.

Manticore Books and the Orillia Public Library are grateful to the following downtown businesses that agreed to participate in this important literacy program:

  • Eclectic Café
  • Cards and Coasters
