After a two-year hiatus, the Orillia Lions were able to host their annual Golf Tournament at Couchiching Golf and County Club on Saturday, May 28.

The sold-out event saw 72 participants take to the links. Attendees were treated to a beautiful day of golf including an opportunity to win prizes, and take part in a putting contest orchestrated by Teens on Edge. To wrap up the day they enjoyed an excellent dinner prepared by the Couchiching Golf and Country Club.

“The support we have received from local business for our 20th Annual Golf Tournament has been nothing short of stellar,” said Michael Taylor, president of the Orillia Lions Club.

“Golfers had the opportunity to win prizes ranging from gift certificates, to mugs, to hand tools and even a charcuterie board, all of which were donated by local businesses.”

Officials noted that the hole in one contest, presented by Ron Johnston Insurance, came up short as the $15,000 prize went unclaimed yet again this year. Club officials wish everyone better luck next year!

The annual Lions Club Golf Tournament has raised more than $100,000 over the past 20 years. 100% of the funds raised stay local and support those in need within the community. The club prides itself in serving the community of Orillia and is proud to be part of the world’s largest service club organization.

“The intimate setting at Couchiching Golf and Country Club and the excellent weather went a long way to making for an enjoyable day,” said Lion Bill Belfour, the tournament organizer.

“We are extremely grateful for the business community’s response and the maxed-out number of golfers we saw for the 20th anniversary of our tournament, especially given the difficult past two years. It also means that we (the Orillia Lions Club) can once again engage in fundraising to be able to support the local community," said Belfour.

In addition to the Orillia Lions Club, the Teens on Edge group was on hand helping out with the putting contest. Teens on Edge is a not-for-profit organization that provides teens the opportunity to take to the ski hills during the winter months. The group was delighted to be awarded almost $300 raised through the putting contest.
