Local artist Dave Beckett is providing an opportunity to view a collection of his Sea and Sky paintings at his studio in the village of Marchmont, just west of Orillia, Sept. 27 from 5 to 9 p.m. and Sept. 28-29 from noon to 9 p.m.

Well known for his works in pastel and oil, Beckett began this series three years ago after realizing he wanted a new approach to his subjects.

Spending time on the east and west coasts of Canada and the U.S. was the beginning of his interest in depicting water in various situations.

Always on the search of new creative expression, Beckett has found the "what is above us" is filling that need.

"Ever changing shapes, shades and colours in deep blues, rich sunset oranges to muted misty skies offered me unlimited opportunities for my painting,” says Beckett. “And the result has proven popular."

He hopes he communicates the feeling of tranquility to the viewer.

Included in this collection will be Newfoundland waters and skies over Ontario and beyond. One of his giclee prints will be offered as a door prize; the first 50 visitors will receive a Georgian Bay print.

Some of Beckett’s paintings will be included in a further exhibit during the annual Thanksgiving Images Tour.
