The Ganaraska Hiking Club, which celebrated its 50th anniversary in 2018, is active year-round.

On Saturday, April 20, members of the Orillia club are hoping to entice others in the community to be active.

They are hosting a special hike open to the public at Scout Valley. The event will begin at 10 a.m. on Saturday. Hikers will depart from the Regan House parking lot, just off the 15th Line, across Old Barrie Road from the West Orillia Sports Complex.

Orillia is in the middle of the Ganaraska Trail, a 500-kilometre trail that spans Lake Ontario to Georgian Bay and the Collingwood area where it joins the Bruce Trail.

The trail proceeds across lands held by private landowners, county forests and municipalities whose generosity has allowed the formation of a continuous trail, with only a few gaps.

Orillia is one of nine member clubs, each with their own section to steward and enjoy.
