Recently, Couchiching Heights Public School Grade 6 student, Noah Stein, had the honour of being chosen to attend the Provincial Heritage Fair at York University.

Noah was one of approximately 25 elementary students from across the province to showcase his work at York University earlier this month.

Ontario Heritage Fair (OHF) is a competition and showcase that highlights various aspects of Canadian heritage and history. OHF’s goal is to increase awareness of and interest in Canadian heritage.

Topics are self-chosen, and with minor teacher guidance, students complete the projects independently on their own time.

Noah’s project on the 1917 Halifax Explosion was also one of several student projects chosen to represent Couchiching Heights at the Simcoe County Regional Heritage Fair in April.

Noah’s project comprised a bulletin board of facts and information about the Halifax Explosion, as well as an intricate model of the actual Halifax harbour and ships as they would have looked at the time of the explosion.

Noah dressed as a newspaper boy, and delivered a short oral presentation about the explosion while in character.

Congratulations to Noah for his excellent work in bringing an aspect of Canadian history to life, and for being chosen to represent Couchiching Heights Public School at the Provincial Heritage Fair.
