An Orillia man, who served with the Royal Canadian Air Force, was thanked for his service this week with the presentation of a hand-crafted quilt.
Tyler Shepperdson was given the Quilt of Valour at Orillia's Branch 34 of the Royal Canadian Legion.
"It was a genuine honour and privilege, on behalf of Quilts of Valour - Canada Society, to present Mr. Tyler Shepperdson with his beautiful quilt," said Ken Neilson, who made the presentation.
The quilt was personally designed and hand-crafted by a quartet of talented local artisans: Julie Dubeau, Beth Dubeau, Marion Brophy and Linda DeVillers.
Shepperdson served with the Royal Canadian Air Force on numerous domestic and international deployments abroad.
He was sent to Central America (Belize - Building Schools mission), Dubai (in support of the Afghanistan campaign), worked with the U.S. Forces at Fort Pickett (in support of CF Forces Reserves in training) and also was sent to CFS Alert, Greenland.
The Orillia man was critically injured while serving and has since been medically released, noted Neilson.
"Tyler Shepperdson is most deserving to receive this wonderful, comforting quilt from a grateful nation on behalf of all those who represent Quilts of Valour - Canada Society," said Neilson. "Thank you for your dedicated service."
