ORILLIA SOLDIERS' MEMORIAL HOSPITAL FOUNDATION

A cheque for $8,820 was presented to the Orillia Soldiers’ Memorial Hospital Foundation on behalf of Orillia McDonald’s Restaurants, demonstrating the incredible showing of support from our community on McHappy Day.
In Orillia, one dollar from every Big Mac, Happy Meal and Hot McCafé beverage sold on McHappy Day was donated to Ronald McDonald House Toronto and Orillia Soldiers’ Memorial Hospital.
At OSMH, the funds will go toward purchasing a Central Patient Monitoring System (CPMS) for the Pediatric Unit.
Orillia McDonald’s restaurant owners, Jason and Jennifer O’Neill, are blown away by the attendance of this year’s fundraiser.
“We’re so grateful for the outpouring of support from the Orillia and area community during our annual McHappy Day,” said Jason. “This year’s amazing event raised $17,640 which is shared between two great causes. This would not be possible without the incredible support from our employees, volunteers, supplier partners and guests.”
At OSMH, the CPMS will continuously monitor the vitals of all patients on the pediatric floor from one central location. The system tracks a patient’s respiratory rate, body temperature, cardiac output and more, allowing physicians and nurses to respond quickly to any changes in a child’s condition.
This key piece of equipment will increase the quality of care to the most vulnerable patients and provide peace of mind to their families and healthcare providers.
“McHappy Day is one of our favourite events of the year,” said Lisa Wanamaker, OSMH Foundation Development Officer. “The Foundation’s partnership with McDonald’s, and McHappy Day specifically, is incredibly significant. We love to see so many smiling faces showing their support for such an important cause.
"We know it takes an incredible amount of work, organization and passion to host this fantastic fundraising event year after year, so thank you to Jennifer and Jason and everyone involved.”
The cheque presentation coincided with the grand reopening of the newly renovated Walmart McDonald’s. A celebratory ribbon-cutting marked the reveal of the Murphy Road location’s colourful facelift.
More than 1,400 McDonald’s restaurants participated in the 26th annual McDonald’s McHappy Day.
