Midland man charged with impersonating a police officer

MIDLAND - The Ontario Provincial Police has charged a Midland resident in connection with a series of police impersonation incidents throughout the North Simcoe area.

The investigation was initiated after the OPP received numerous complaints of a male operating several vehicles which appeared to resemble marked and unmarked police vehicles. The male driver would resemble a police officer and interact with the complainants in a manner suggesting that he was a police officer.

Charged is Brandon (Don) Waites, 27 years, of Midland, with the following offences:

  • Personating peace officer
  • Personating peace officer (badge, using uniform, or equipment) Contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada 
  • Breach of probation order Contrary to the Provincial Offences Act

The accused was released from custody on a recognizance at a bail hearing held before the Ontario Court of Justice in Barrie on March 12, 2019 and will appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Midland on April 4, 2019.

Police believe that there could be other victims of similar circumstance and would like to speak to those persons.
