Minor peewee Terriers head into playoffs on hot streak

The Jim Wilson minor peewee Orillia Terriers finished the regular season with an impressive 7-1 streak down the home stretch of the York Simcoe Hockey Association season. 

Orillia began the run with a 10-1 win over Innisfil. Orillia dominated the game from start to finish. Orillia had points from Connor Varley (2g, 3a), Devan Fisher (2g, 3a), Cohen Robitaille (2g, 3a), Tommy Goard (1g, 3a), Bennett Mackey (1g, 2a), Nathan Healy (1g, 2a), Marcus Petroff (1g), and single assists from Chase Beiers, Eric Taher and Cameron Weishar. Ryker Jacobs was in net for the win.

Orillia then travelled to Aurora to face the Tigers. The visitors won the game 5-2. Orillia’s point getters were: Robitaille (2g, 1a), Mackey (1g, 1a), Fisher (2a), Goard (2a), Petroff (1g) and Beiers (1g), while assists went to Healy (1a), Weishar (1a). Jacobs again stood tall between the pipes for the Terriers.

Orillia capped a busy streak by blanking the Innisfil Winterhawks 4-0. Connor Sampson earned the shutout. Orillia had points from Varley (2g), Goard (2a), Mackey (2a), Robitaille (1g), Fisher (1g), and single assists from Healy, Max McKay and Lukas Hagman.

Orillia took on East Gwillumbury Eagles in the teams’ final match up for the season. Sampson earned his second straight shutout as Orillia beat the Eagles 6-0. Orillia’s offence was led by Robitaille (1g, 1a), Fisher (2a) and single tallies from Goard, Ethan Telford, Varley, Petroff, and Hunter McLaughlin. The other assists went to Healy (1a), Beiers (1a) and Hagman (1a).

Orillia was looking to close out 2017 with another win, but were unable to complete the sweep of the Tigers as they lost 5-3. Point getters were: Mackey (1g, 1a), Healy (2a), Telford (1g), Robitaille (1g), while Petroff, Hagman and Weishar had lone assists. Jacobs was in net for the loss.

Orillia opened up 2018 with a 5-3 win against the Newmarket Redmen. Fisher scored on a penalty shot to get the offence going. Orillia received goals from Telford and Petroff, before Mackey iced the game with two goals. Telford, McLaughlin, Healy (2a), and Beiers added assists in the game. Sampson earned the victory in net.

Orillia hosted Barrie in a battle between the top two teams in the league. Orillia’s Mackey started the scoring in the game on an assist from Healy. Fisher then buried a Robitaille pass to give the Terriers the two-goal lead. Petroff then slammed the puck past the Colts goalie in the third period on a Telford assist. Orillia’s defence stole the show as they stymied the Colts all night long. Hagman, Beiers and Weishar also registered assists from the back end. Fisher scored another late in the game to give the Terriers the 4-0 win. Jacobs turned away all Colt shots for the shutout victory.

Orillia finished the season with a 7-2 romp over the Bradford Bulldogs. Orillia had points from Varley (3g), Fisher (3a), Robitaille (1g, 2a), Petroff (2a), Mackey (1g) and Jake Curran buried two goals after he was called up for his first game of the season. Single assists went to Jordan Blunt, Hagman and Taher. Sampson was in net for the win.

Orillia faces King Rebellion in the first round of the Ontario Minor Hockey Association playdowns.
