New chicken wing restaurant to take flight in Orillia this summer

'Orillia is the kind of place where we have a good Canadian population with people who enjoy watching sports and have an outdoorsy flair,' says president of WingsUp!

Orillia is getting a new chicken wing joint this summer.

WingsUp! will be located at 380 Memorial Ave. next to Harvey’s and Swiss Chalet. It is expected to open by the end of July.

The takeout and delivery-based restaurant offers chicken wings, chicken bites, sandwiches, wraps, and other tasty menu options. WingsUp! is a popular brand in its 14 locations across Ontario and have become popular for their late night food options.

“If you want to come and sit down to have a quick bite to eat with us then you can certainly do that, but most of our business is done through take-out and delivery,” explained WingsUp! president Darren Czarnogorski.

Currently the WingsUp! location on Memorial Avenue is still being constructed, but should be ready to go in the next four to five weeks, Czarnogorski says.

“We thought Memorial would be a good access area where we could easily do deliveries to most of the Orillia population,” he said.

“It’s a bit of an older area which I like. People who have lived in Orillia for a longer time is the demographic we are looking for and that area has a lot of that.”

Czarnogorski says Orillia is a perfect match with the target demographic for the WingsUp! brand.

“We are always looking at what our core demographic of our customers is, and we always think that a very Canadian place is a good place for us,” he explained.

“Orillia is the kind of place where we have a good Canadian population with people who enjoy watching sports and have an outdoorsy flair, and we thought that would be a good fit for our type of concept.”

Czarnogorski says WingsUp! offers Orillians a different experience from other already established chicken wing eateries in town.

“The biggest separation is that we do focus on take-out and delivery. Most wing places are set up like a bar where they offer beer and things like that. We do offer beer at some of our locations, but our primary focus is the food,” he said.

“We are also always fresh and never frozen which is always a separator when it comes to flavour, we just think that our quality is high because we take the time to source fresh chicken wings.”

The Orillia WingsUp! location will employ 12 to 20 local people depending on how business goes for the new restaurant. The restaurant will be owned by Orillia resident Pragnesh Patel.
