From The Ashes: Orillia's Fires opened Saturday at the Orillia Museum of Art and History and among those on hand for its unveiling were several firefighters who brought their aerial truck. The exhibition, which runs until January 6, showcases several historic and modern fires in Orillia. These events elicited a strong response from the community, united in a desire to assist in recovery and rebuilding efforts. Through artifacts and archival information from OMAH’s permanent collection and the Orillia Fire Department, the history of the department and historic fire practices are explored. Interviews with firefighters of the past and present provide a first-hand account of the on-call life of an Orillia firefighter. David Hawke/OrilliaMatters
