For the first time since the beginning of June, the province has reported 401 new, lab-confirmed COVID-19 cases in Ontario today.
This week Public Health Ontario has reported between 250 and 315 new cases each day, plus the spike of 401 today.
According to a summary of cases provided by the province, 200 of today's cases are individuals between 20 and 39 years old and another 99 are people between 40 and 59 years old. There are 38 new cases in people over 60, and the rest of the cases are youth aged 19 and under.
As has been the trend this week, a majority of the cases are from Ottawa, Toronto and the GTA. Based on a breakdown of the 401 cases by Public Health Ontario, 78 per cent of the new cases were reported by four of the province's 34 health units. Toronto Public Health reported 130 of today's new cases while Peel reported 82, Ottawa reported 61 and York Region reported 40.
The average incidence rate for the province is 310 cases of COVID-19 per 100,000 people. In Toronto the incidence rate is 509.7 cases per 100,000 people, and in Peel it's 500.3 cases per 100,000. Both York and Ottawa have average incidence rate close to the provincial statistic.
Public Health Ontario has confirmed 11 more school-related COVID cases today, including five student cases and six "unidentified." There have now been 72 school-related cases spread across 60 different schools in the province.
No new deaths have been confirmed in today's provincial update.
Since January, Public Health Ontario has confirmed 46,077 cases of COVID-19, and has reported 40,600 of those cases as recovered (88 per cent) and 2,825 cases have ended in death (6 per cent). There have been 1,824 deaths of long-term care residents with COVID-19, which is 64.6 per cent of all COVID-related deaths reported by the province.
Of the total cases in the province 6,008 (13 per cent) have been long-term care residents, and 2,677 health care worker cases have been associated with outbreaks at long-term care facilities.
There are 2,652 active, lab-confirmed cases in Ontario, including 58 people who are hospitalized with the virus. There are 20 COVID patients in intensive care and 10 patients on ventilators.
Since yesterday's update, the province has reported another 35,826 tests have been processed, which is nearly the same number reported yesterday.
The Simcoe Muskoka District Health Unit has reported a total of 790 cases of COVID-19, with 682 of those now listed as recovered. There have been 37 deaths in the region attributed to COVID-19.
The health unit indicates there are 66 unrecovered cases in Simcoe County, including 46 in Barrie, eight in Bradford, two in New Tecumseth, four in Innisfil, two in Orillia, one in Collingwood, one in Wasaga Beach, one in Springwater, and one in Oro-Medonte.
There are two people hospitalized, one Bradford resident and one New Tecumseth resident.
