ORILLIA PUBLIC LIBRARY
********************

Ontario Public Week is being held from Oct. 20-26.

If you haven’t stopped by or it’s been a while, you will be happily surprised to discover all the materials and resources available. Whether it’s streaming your favourite movies, researching your family history, downloading your favorite magazines or songs, or producing your latest creation on a 3D printer or Cricut vinyl cutter, we have something for everyone.

The best part is that it’s all free with your Library card! Don’t have a card? Library cards are free if you live or own property in the City of Orillia, Township of Oro-Medonte or Township of Severn.  During Ontario Public Library Week, when you get a new card, or renew your expired membership, you will be entered in a draw to win an OPL tote bag.

We want to celebrate public libraries with our community! On Monday, Oct. 21 from 6:00-7:30 p.m. you are cordially invited to our Kick-Off Party for Ontario Public Library Week. This is a great opportunity to explore all of the wonderful services and programs that the Library has to offer, and it’s all free and family-friendly!

You can be entertained by The Darrin Davis Band, tour our art collection which includes works by Franklin Carmichael, Arthur Shilling, Elizabeth Wyn Wood among others, and get a great deal on books at our 2-for-1 Book Sale. You can also pose in front of our Green Screen and step into historic Orillia or a popular children’s book and receive a free digital souvenir photo. Families can enjoy an all-ages art project, a special scavenger hunt, and staff Book Wizards that will introduce the wonders of children’s and young adult books and our new Adventure Bags. And it wouldn’t be a party without cake!

From October 21-26, we will be collecting Food for Fines for The Sharing Place. You can reduce your fines by up to $6 when you bring in toiletry or non-perishable food items. Each item is worth $2 in fines to a maximum of $6. If you bring in items during our Kick-Off Party, you can have a maximum of $10 waived with your donation. (Please visit The Sharing Place website for a list of their top needed items.)

To end our week of celebration, on Friday, October 25th at 7:30 p.m. we will be holding an After-Hours Storytime for Grown-Ups only! Wear your lounging clothes, bring a blanket and cozy up with a beverage at our first ever licensed adult storytime. OPL staff will read and perform some classic funny favourites and some hilarious made-for-adults tales! Please register online for this free program; snacks are included and there will be a cash bar. (Ages 19+)

Contact the Library at 705-325-2556 or email [email protected] for more information.
