Ontario reports record 4,736 new COVID cases Thursday

Today's report includes 3,174 recoveries, 29 deaths and 296 new hospitalizations

Public Health Ontario has reported a record 4,736 new cases of COVID-19 today (April 15).

Today's report includes 3,174 recoveries and 29 new deaths.  

The deaths reported today include one person between 20 and 39 years old, one person between 40 and 59 years old, 12 people between 60 and 79 years old, and 15 people over the age of 79 years old.

The province has reported 296 new hospitalizations since yesterday, and 56 new admissions of COVID-19 patients to intensive care units.

The April 15 update provided by the province's public health agency also reported the following data:

  • 38,341 active cases, which is up from 36,608 yesterday. 
  • 1,932 people are currently hospitalized with COVID-19 in Ontario, up from 1,877 reported yesterday. 
  • There are 659 patients in intensive care units because of COVID-19 (up from 642 yesterday) and 442 COVID patients on ventilators (even with 442 reported yesterday)
  • The province reported 65,559 tests were processed yesterday resulting in an eight per cent positivity rate. 
  • Another 39,682 tests are still under investigation and/or being processed. To date, 13.3 million tests have been completed.
  • Of the 4,736 new cases reported today, 1,254 are from Toronto, 983 cases are from Peel, 526 are from York Region, and 118 are from Simcoe-Muskoka
  • The new cases reported today include 894 individuals aged 19 and under, 1,719 people between 20 and 39 years old, 1,408 people between 40 and 59 years old, 625 people between 60 and 79 years old, and 94 people aged 80 and over.

Vaccines

  • There were 105,430 doses of vaccines against COVID-19 administered on April 14, which is down from 112,817 doses on April 13.
  • As of 6 p.m. on April 14, the province reported 3,528,404 doses of vaccine against COVID-19 have been administered.
  • In total, 337,206 people have been fully vaccinated.

Public Health Ontario has confirmed 403,571 cases of COVID-19 since the start of the pandemic, and reported 357,591 recoveries and 7,639 deaths, of which 3,908 were individuals living in long-term care facilities.

The cumulative average incidence rate in the province is 2,715 cases per 100,000 people in Ontario.

The weekly incidence rate in Ontario is 180.1 cases per 100,000 people, which is an increase of 31.7 per cent from last week (March 30 to April 5).

Yesterday, the Simcoe Muskoka District Health Unit reported 89 new COVID cases in the region. 

There are 971 active, lab-confirmed cases in the region, most of which are in Simcoe County.

The health unit has reported 1,984 variant cases confirmed to date, with 494 of those cases still active.

Since the start of the pandemic, the local health unit has confirmed 8,937 cases of COVID-19 with 7,601 of those cases recovered and 215 cases ending in death. 

There are 41 people from Simcoe County and one person from Muskoka hospitalized with COVID-19.

The weekly incidence rate for Simcoe-Muskoka was 110 cases per 100,000 for the week of April 4-10, which is the highest ever recorded in the region.
