NEWS RELEASE
ONTARIO PROVINCIAL POLICE
*************************
Members of the Collingwood and The Blue Mountains detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) want to alert area residents of a scam that appears to be quite active today as detachment staff have received approximately six calls in regards to it.

Area residents have reported receiving a call with an automated voice advising that: "Canadian Majesty calling, federal charges have been levied against your SIN number. Do not proceed to a federal building or you will be arrested. Press 1 to speak to a justice of the peace."

In one of the cases the complainant pressed 1 and a voice answered 'Service Canada'. This is obviously a scam in the same realm as the Canada Revenue Agency scam where they later request a payment to remove the charges from your record.

If you receive such a call, do not press 1, do not provide the caller with any personal information or send them any payment. Instead hang up the phone and call your local police or contact the Canadian Anti-Fraud Centre at 1-888-495-8501 or online at the Fraud Reporting System (FRS) to report the incident.
