OPP mum about heavy police presence on Peter Street South

Canine unit, tactical unit and OPP helicopter all involved in ongoing investigation near downtown Orillia

There is a substantial police presence in the Peter Street South area this morning.

At about 10:50 a.m., the OPP published a Tweet advising the public to avoid the area due to "public safety concerns."

The focal point of the investigation seems to be a house at 92 Peter St. S., near Western Avenue. An OPP canine unit in addition to OPP officers in tactical gear were in the area. An OPP helicopter has been circling that part of the city all morning.

At about 10:45 a.m., the officers crossed King Street and were investigating the loading area of the Home Hardware store.

Police activity remains in progress. There are no road blocks in place.

Nobody on scene would comment and the Orillia OPP communications officers could not be reached for comment.
