Orillia’s food bank has received a much-needed gift at a busy time of the year.

The Investment Planning Counsel reached out to its staff and clients and, by extension, its neighbour across the street — The Sharing Place Food Bank. Every year, the business hosts an open house for clients. Email is sent to the clients with a list of items needed at the food bank.

This year’s appreciation event was held Thursday afternoon, when Sharing Place executive director Chris Peacock stopped by to check out the haul and pick up a cheque for $2,000, donated by the Investment Planning Counsel.

“Every year, they ask us what we need. When organizations do food drives, we often get a lot of stuff we don’t need,” Peacock said. “Every bit matters, but that we can depend on (the Investment Planning Counsel) every year is very important.”

The business has been donating annually since 2012.

“At Christmastime, it’s all about people’s health and happiness,” said Chuck Burton, senior financial consultant. “We want to be a good community partner.”
