Orillia charity seeks help to support boy abandoned by mother

Community is asked to donate clothes, give money to help pay for several surgeries for a condition that prevents Dominican Republic boy from walking
The Kingsview Sponsorship Program (KSP) is a not-for-profit charity that operates out of Orillia. The mission of KSP is to share the love of Christ by serving poverty-stricken children, orphans, students, and widows in the Dominican Republic by providing the necessities of life through sponsorships and designated projects. Our most recent project is called: Onely Rosario Surgery.

Onely Rosario is one of the many children in the Dominican Republic that are sponsored through KSP. He was born with a condition known as Spastic Quadriplegia, which prevents him from walking.

As Onely continues to grow, his condition worsens with continued ridged tendons resulting in severe chronic pain and restricted mobility. The doctors have recommended multiple surgeries which include bi-lateral hip surgery and tendon surgeries on his lower legs.

Onely was abandoned by his mother in 2013, at the age of 4 years-old, and was left in the care of an elderly widow, named Iluminada, in the town of Esperanza, Dominican Republic. Iluminada continues to take care of Onely as if he were her own son.

Iluminada is at an age where lifting Onely from wheelchair to bed (and vice-versa), and simple tasks such as pushing him in his wheelchair to and from the local church, are becoming more difficult. We are certain that Onely’s decrease in pain, along with the possibility of being able to stand and Lord willing even walk, will offer tremendous relief to her also.

The Kingsview Sponsorship Program has created a special project for Onely Rosario with the goal to raise $25,000 CAD to provide the financial coverage for his surgeries, as well as transportation costs for both Onely and Iluminada, overnight accommodations, and food while Onely recovers in the hospital.

So, what can we do to help?

KSP is hosting a clothing drive as an effort to raise funds to be donated towards Onely’s surgeries. A Donation Challenge is taking place on the KSP social media accounts: Facebook and Instagram (@kingsviewsp). They are looking for clothing, household textiles, and small household goods donations. See social media posts for tips on decluttering and organizing different areas of your home, with the hope that you will donate the items that you declutter from your house to the clothing drive.

There is a 24/7 drop-off bin located at JG Stewart Construction (1118 Brodie Drive, Severn, ON – behind the Orillia Square Mall) open now till Dec. 12, 2021.
