Two Orillia women are sharing a $1-million Lotto Max win.

Marlisa Mercer and Joann Macqueen won the MaxMillions prize in the June 7 draw.

Best friends for more than 35 years, the two play the lottery together when a large jackpot is up for grabs.

Macqueen was at a grocery when she checked her ticket.

“I saw the ‘Big Winner’ screen but didn’t think we actually won,” she said in a news release issued by OLG.

Mercer said winning the prize was “overwhelming and so unbelievable.” She plans to put some of the winnings toward home renovations.

“I will treat myself to some hardwood floors and landscaping,” she said.

Macqueen, meanwhile, intends to buy a new vehicle and help out her family.

Both said they plan to donate to the local hospice and food bank.

The duo’s winning ticket was purchased at Shoppers Drug Mart on Front Street in Orillia.
