Orillia man faces multiple charges after police discover loaded handgun, drugs

On July 22, 2018 the Orillia detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police received information about someone who was thought to be in possession of an illegal firearm in the City of Orillia.

Orillia OPP members, in conjunction with the Orillia Community Street Crime Unit and Orillia Crime Unit, conducted an investigation into the allegations. As a result of the investigation police found two firearms including a loaded handgun. Police also located a quantity of cocaine and Xanax.

Jordan Sheard, born Jan. 31, 1994, of Orillia, was charged with the following offences.

  • Possession of a firearm knowing serial number has been tampered contrary to section 108(1)(b) of the Criminal Code.
  • Possession of firearm or ammunition contrary to prohibition order contrary to section 117.01(1) of the Criminal Code.
  • Possession of firearm or ammunition contrary to prohibition order contrary to section 117.01(1) of the Criminal Code.
  • Careless storage of a firearm contrary to section 86(1) of the Criminal Code.
  • Careless storage of a firearm contrary to section 86(1) of the Criminal Code.
  • Unauthorized possession of a prohibited or restricted firearm contrary to section 91(1) of the Criminal Code.
  • Possession of a loaded prohibited or restricted firearm contrary to section 95(a) of the Criminal Code.
  • Possession of proceeds of property obtained by crime contrary to section 354(1)(a) of the Criminal Code.
  • Possession of a schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking contrary to section 5(2) of the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act.
  • Possession of a schedule IV substance for the purpose of trafficking contrary to section 5(2) of the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act.
  • Possession of a schedule I substance contrary to section 4(1) of the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act.
  • Possession of a schedule IV substance contrary to section 4(1) of the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act.

The accused was arrested on July 23, 2018 in Orillia by officers from the Repeat Offenders Parole Enforcement Unit.

The accused has been remanded in custody and is set to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Barrie, via video, on July 31, 2018.
