On Feb. 19, 2019 Scouters, Guiders, and youth from Orillia Scouting and Guiding, joined Orillia City Councillor Jay Fallis in raising the Scouts-Guide Flag at the Orillia City Centre.

February is a special month for Scouts and Girl Guides worldwide. Each year, both movements celebrate Feb. 22, the birthday of Scouts founder, Lord Robert Baden-Powell and his wife, the World Chief Guide, Lady Olave Baden-Powell.

For the past four decades in Canada, Scout-Guide Week has been recognized. This year Scout-Guide Week is Feb. 17 to 24.

Scouting continues to thrive in Orillia. The first troop was founded in 1909, and currently over 120 Scouting and 60 Guiding youth have an opportunity to learn by doing, and become better citizens and leaders in the community.

“We go camping, play tons of games and work on different life skills,” says Group Youth Commissioner Mira Duncan, 13.

Scouts Canada received the Order of Orillia in 2003.

Youth can register in Scouting or Guiding throughout the year. To register your child in Scouting in the Orillia, Hawkestone, Severn or Atherley areas, contact Rob Duncan at 705-558-1241.
