The Georgian Grizzlies men’s and women’s cross country teams had their final invitational race prior to the provincial championship on Saturday at Centennial in Scarborough.

It was another great performance from second year runner Kaitlyn L’Abbe (Ottawa).

L’Abbe finished in 5th place overall in the women’s 6km race in a time of 24:24 and finished just 21 seconds behind the winner. It was L’Abbe’s second straight top five finish as she won the Seneca Invitational in the team’s last race back on Sept. 29.

Following her were Georgian runners Meaghan Evon (Barrie) who finished 31st, Jessica Roach (Orillia) who finished 41st and Sophia Merilainen (Batawa) in 51st.

Overall the women’s team finished in seventh place.

On the men’s side, Georgian’s Michael MacInnes (Barrie) was the team’s top runner finishing in 20th place in a time of 29:01 for the 8km course.

He was followed by fellow Grizzlies Jeffrey Scott (Newmarket) in 29th place, Tyler Thomson (Bracebridge) in 35th, William Britton (Ottawa) in 68th, David Sun (China) in 91st and Nelvin Sen (India) in 93rd place to round out the Georgian runners.

With their combined times, the Grizzlies men’s team finished in 8th place overall.

The Grizzlies will now have a couple of weeks to prepare for the 2018 OCAA Cross Country Championships presented by belairdirect hosted by Centennial College in Scarborough on Saturday, Oct. 27.
