Orillia set to become newest landing spot for Firehouse Subs

All Firehouse Subs support first responders in their community; In Orillia, that means help for Orillia Fire Department to purchase search and rescue vehicle

Orillia is set to become the home of Firehouse Subs' 44th location in Canada.

Franchisees Nilam Shah and his nephew, Ravish Shah, are planning on opening their doors at 3220 Monarch Dr., Unit 2, on May 16. The duo also own the Barrie location on Bayfield Street.

“Some people might have tried us in Barrie, but for those who haven’t tried Firehouse Subs we are excited to welcome them to try it,” Shah said.

Firehouse Subs are served hot and piled high with freshly sliced meat and cheese, Shah says.

“Our food is hot, fresh, delicious, high quality, and there is honestly nobody that can compare to us,” he said.

“Every morning our meat is sliced fresh, our bread is amazing and different than what you would call average bread ... that’s the reason we’ve had so much success in all our markets.”

A unique part about Firehouse Subs is they support local first responders through their Public Safety Foundation of Canada, which is dedicated to improving the lifesaving capabilities of first responders and public safety organizations in communities served by Firehouse Subs.

The Public Safety Foundation of Canada provides funding, resources, and support to first responders, according to their website.

In Orillia, Firehouse Subs will be working to fund a search and rescue vehicle that the Orillia Fire Department is looking to purchase.

“We’ve been in contact with our fire chief in Orillia and we are hopeful that they are going to apply for some equipment for the fire hall. We would love to set up something for them to get them some things that they need,” Shah said.

“We also want to work with the police department and EMS; we like to help the community. If we are doing business in a community, we want to give back and be a part of that community.”

At the Barrie Firehouse Subs location, Shah and his staff have been providing food for front-line workers during the COVID-19 pandemic.

“When COVID started we thought how are we going to survive? And then we realized we can get through this with the support of the community, and we needed to help the community that is supporting us,” Shah said.

“We worked with the mayor, the police chief, the fire chief, and we found out what organizations we could provide food to, what kind of support we can provide.”

Shah says Firehouse Subs is looking forward to supporting the Orillia community in the same way.

“We want to go out and say 'hey what can we do for this community,’” he said.

Firehouse Subs will be hiring 30 plus employees for the Orillia location. They are taking applications here.
