The Orillia Silver Band is hosting a Brass Band Weekend, April 27-29, 2018.  The weekend is sponsored by the Canadian Band Association (Ontario Chapter) and will feature upwards of 60 brass musicians from around the province.

The event will culminate in a mass band Celebration of Brass Concert taking place on Sunday, April 29, 2018, 2 p.m. at St. Paul’s Centre, Orillia.  Tickets are $20 adults; $10 students and will be available at the door.

Over the course of the weekend, brass players will be rehearsing pieces for the concert. The musicians will also be participating in sectional rehearsals under the direction of brass band conductors from around Ontario including Larry Shields, Lindsi Jennings and David Druce.

The concert will include music ranging from Paul Lovatt-Cooper’s When Thunder Calls to the theme from Lord of the Rings, and Canadian composer Morley Calvert's Suite on Canadian Folk Songs to the Beatle’s Hey Jude.

The Orillia Silver Band will also perform Ty Watson’s A Life Well Lived, commissioned by the Band, at the concert.

“These brass weekends afford the amateur brass player an excellent opportunity to join with some of the best musicians in the province,” noted Neil Barlow, Music Director and Conductor, Orillia Silver Band.  “The Sunday concert will feature both the Orillia Silver Band as well as the massed band from the weekend gathering.  It is sure to be an entertaining afternoon”.
