Jodi Lloyd has been re-elected chair of the Simcoe County District School Board for a second term.

The trustee for Orillia, Ramara and Severn sought another term because she is “incredibly proud of the work done at the board, and we’re starting to see returns.”

Those areas, she said, include adult learning and Indigenous education.

Grade 10 literacy test results show Indigenous students performing at the same level as other students for the first time, she noted.

“To see that result is incredible because our Indigenous students have always scored below the other students and, for the first time, they’re on par,” she said.

The role of board chair, and of trustee, isn’t easy during these times, said Lloyd, who has been with the board for 14 years.

“We’re in limbo on a number of things and, as a board, it is very difficult to do good capital planning when these issues are unresolved,” she said.

Uncertainty around changing class sizes makes capital planning harder and Lloyd would “like to see all that finalized so we know what we’re doing.”

Robert North, trustee for Adjala-Tosorontio, Clearview, CFB Borden and Essa, has been re-elected for a second term as vice-chair of the board.
