On Saturday, Sept. 15, Downtown Orillia will play host to the second annual Downtown Farm to Table Dinner event in the downtown core to celebrate and promote downtown restaurateurs, as well as local produce and farmers in the region.

The sold-out dinner will be the second of its kind in Orillia and will boast local fare prepared by nine downtown restaurants and cafes to include Apple Annie’s Café, Fionn MacCool’s, Tre Sorelle, Brewery Bay, Shine Juice Bar & Café, Eclectic Café/MRC Catering, Era 67 Restaurant & Lounge, Rustica Pizza Vino and Mariposa Market. One hundred twenty-five tickets were sold for the dinner in less than three days.

Guests will begin their evening with a pre-cocktail hour on Mississaga Street West prior to the dinner commencing. Guests will then be seated at a 128-foot table where they will soak in the ambience of the downtown, listen to light music and enjoy a delectable seven course dinner paired with wine and beer.

At the end of the evening dinner guests will be presented with numerous goodies provided by downtown merchants. Guests will also be encouraged to make their way down the main street to experience Downtown Orillia’s vibrant night life once the dinner has concluded.

As an added bonus, guests will be invited to pose on the red carpet for a pre-dinner photo op.

Major sponsors of the dinner included Complete Rentals, BruceGreySimcoeRegional Tourism Organization 7, Town’s Jewellers, Mayo & Associates, Twig Creative, Candles with Care, Nourish Yoga & Wellness, Brewery Bay, Beau's Brewery & Southbrook Vineyards. Produce has been sourced from numerous local and regional farmers: The Kitchen Garden Farm, Rama Community Farm, Hewitt’s Farm-Market, McBrides Organic Farm, Wild Child Organics, Earth Valley Organics, Huron Sun, Integrated Farms, Bass Lake Farms, Bulbs of Fire, Maple Orchard Farms, Pinecone Organics, Tre Sorelles’ home garden, Farmer Lee Kelly & Nicholyn Farms.

“The goal of the dinner is to bring new visitors as well as locals into our beautiful downtown," said Courtney Thompson, Event & Marketing Director of the Downtown Orillia Management Board (DOMB).

"We want to feature and promote the incredible restaurants located in Downtown Orillia year-round and in turn, the local, organic food that these restaurants offer on a regular basis," she said. "We also want to highlight new and existing partnerships between local farmers and producers with our downtown restaurants and raise awareness of what local, organic food is and how easily accessible it actually is through local farmers in our area. It is an important aspect of the dinner to promote how you can live a healthier more sustainable life through integrating local fare into your life on a regular basis and just how accessible it is in our region.”

On April 16, Downtown Orillia was also awarded a Special Events & Promotion Award during the 2018 BIA Awards held at the Blue Mountain Conference Centre from the Ontario Business Improvement Area Association.

The theme for the overall conference was Resilient and Real which was reflected in the judging criteria of Innovation/Concept, Replication, Representation, and Outcome.

“The DOMB, staff and partners of the dinner were very excited to receive such an award for this one-of-a-kind event and plan to continue to grow and continue the dinner in the downtown well into the future. We are very excited to see the evening unfold and what surprises restaurateurs and sponsors have up their sleeves,” said Thompson.
