The Township of Ramara, in partnership with the Ramara Public Library, Ramara Firefighter's Association, Brechin and Mara Legion, Brechin and District Lions Club, Susan Potalivo and Jane Lee, raised $13,105.40 for the Feeding Families Campaign.

The Feeding Families campaign ran from Nov. 25 to Dec. 16, and all funds raised supported children and families in the Ramara community.

"The holidays can be an exceptionally stressful time for those in need, so we are extremely grateful to the residents, businesses and organizations who came together to help support this initiative," Mayor Basil Clarke says.

"With great events that support this initiative, such as the Brechin and Mara Legion and Brechin and District Lion's Club's Breakfast with Santa, we were able to overwhelmingly exceed our goal of $10,000 by over $3,000," said Clarke.

"Also, donations of hats and mittens from residents and Ramara Library's Fibre Friends will help keep children warm throughout the winter. These things illustrate Ramara's unbelievable generosity and community spirit, and I am proud of the community for supporting such a worthy cause. As we prepare for the holidays, council and I wish everyone in our community a happy and safe holiday season," said Clarke.

This year, the money, food and gift cards raised will support 34 families in Ramara by providing gift cards to buy toys and food for the holiday season. Any money earned after Dec. 16 will help families and seniors throughout the year.

"Our residents have faced many challenges over the last three years, but the success of this campaign illustrates the time and dedication of residents, businesses and organizations who have come together to support children and families during the holidays," adds chief administrative officer Zach Drinkwalter. "I want to extend my appreciation to the township staff, Ramara Firefighters Association, the Ramara Public Library, Brechin Foodland, Brechin and Mara Legion, and Brechin and District Lions Club for assisting in this initiative to give back to the community they serve. I would also like to thank Jane Lee, Susan Potalivo and Ramara Library's 'Fibre Friends' for dedicating and contributing countless hours to helping those in the community."

The Ramara Firefighter's Association held its 17th annual 'Stamp Out Hunger' boot drive on Dec. 10, 2022, at the Brechin Foodland to support the campaign. The Ramara Firefighter's Association, comprised of volunteer firefighters, raised over $1,600.

The Township of Ramara wants to remind the community that all municipal buildings will be closed on Dec. 24 and reopen on Jan. 3, 2023, at 9 a.m.
