Two blood donation clinics are coming up in Orillia.

Canadian Blood Services is appealing for donors as it prepares for the clinics Aug. 8 and 11 at the Best Western Plus Mariposa Inn and Conference Centre on Memorial Avenue.

The Aug. 8 clinic will run from 3 to 7 p.m,, while the Aug. 11 clinic will run from 1 to 7 p.m.

Appointments are necessary and can be booked at blood.ca.

Canadian Blood Services notes more than 100,000 new donors are needed each year to make up for the number of people who are no longer able to donate.

The organization is reporting its smallest donor base in a decade and is in immediate need of more donors.

The number of regular donors has decreased by 31,000 during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Especially needed are donations from those with O-negative blood, the universal blood type.
