Parade of Corvettes help couple mark 50th anniversary (7 photos)

While COVID restrictions meant no party was possible, fellow Corvette Club members did a drive-by to help Joe and Dawn Shaughnessy mark milestone

When Ron Green founded the Lake Country Corvette Club 20 years ago, he could never have imagined a summer like this one.

All Corvette car shows were cancelled this spring and summer due to COVID-19, meaning Corvette owners had no where to show off their shiny Chevys.

Joseph Shaughnessy, president of the local car club, along with wife Dawn, kept their two Corvettes in the garage and were disappointed not to have an opportunity to get together with friends who share their love for the iconic cars.

So it was fitting that on Saturday, many local Corvette lovers paraded by their Oro Medonte home to congratulate them on the occasion of their 50th wedding anniversary.

It was a surprise that included the appearance of Simcoe North MP Bruce Stanton and Orillia Mayor Steve Clarke, who were on hand to extend congratulations and present certificates.

Certificates from Simcoe North MPP Jill Dunlop, Oro-Medonte Township Mayor Harry Hughes, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, Ontario Premier Doug Ford and others were also presented to the Shaughnessys.
