Popular Oro-Medonte nature area swamped in snow (16 photos)

Canadian author Margaret Atwood donated property set within the forested hills of the Oro Moraine to the Nature Conservancy of Canada

A series of trails runs out of the East Coulson Swamp off Bass Lake Side Road between Lines 8 and 9 in Oro-Medonte Township north, marked by a small parking lot and an open gate.

The trails at the northern part of the property look over the Braestone development with a view of the Mount St. Louis Moonstone ski area. Glen Oro Farm lies to the east and horseback riders from the adjacent farm often use the hilly trails. Farther to the west lies the trailhead for the Simcoe County Mountain Bike Club.

According to the Couchiching Conservancy website, Canadian author Margaret Atwood donated property set within the forested hills of the Oro Moraine to the Nature Conservancy of Canada.

An additional seven hectares were purchased to consolidate a large block of forest habitat around the reserve by linking to adjacent properties owned by the County of Simcoe and the Orillia Fish and Game Conservation Club.

Signs clearly mark out the areas and the various owners, including private property.
