Power mostly restored after hydro pole catches fire

Pole snapped after catching fire on Murphy Road

Much of Orillia’s west end was without power for a few hours Monday afternoon after a hydro pole caught fire.

Power went out at about 4 p.m., said Orillia Power lineman Jeff Zwiers, after the fire caused the pole, on Murphy Road, across from Walmart, to snap.

Power had been restored by 6 p.m. to every affected area except Walmart, which, Zwiers estimated, would be without hydro until about 7 p.m.

Murphy Road was closed to traffic while Orillia Power worked to restore hydro service to the area.
