A popular Canadian Indie folk group, Reuben and the Dark, hits the stage for the final concert of Mariposa In Concert’s (MIC) 2017-2018 series on Friday, March 16.

“Reuben and the Dark was a crowd favourite at the Mariposa Folk Festival,” MIC Artistic Director Alexandria Taylor said. “We’re thrilled to bring them back to Orillia.”

The Calgary-based group led by singer-songwriter Reuben Bullock makes chilling, emotive folk and soul driven by dark, introspective lyrics that explore the duality of misery and joy. Other members are: Shea Alain, guitar/keys; Brock Geiger, guitar/keys; Ian Jarvis, bass and Brendan Soares, drums.

Boasting a rare chemistry between all members, they have emerged organically from Canada's stellar independent scene on the strength of often anthem-like compositions that translate the language of emotion into song with haunting clarity.

Bullock released the solo albums Pulling Up Arrows in 2010 and Man Made Lakes in 2012 before deciding to adopt a band name. The full band's debut album, Funeral Sky, was released in 2014.

In 2016, they released the single Heart in Two and toured North America and it reached number one on the Top 20 chart of CBC Radio 2 during the week of Feb. 12, 2016.

Tickets are $25 advance, $30 at the door (includes all processing fees and taxes) and are available online at mariposafolk.com or in person at the Mariposa Foundation office, 10 Peter St. South. The concert takes places at the Best Western Mariposa Inn, 400 Memorial Dr., Orillia. Doors open at 7:15 p.m. and the show starts at 8 p.m.

The Mariposa Folk Foundation’s 2017-18 Concert Series is sponsored by Alleycats Music and Art, Apple Annie’s Café, Bell Chiropractic and Soft Tissue Centre, Cathy Cleary Design, Dapper Depot, Dentistry on West, Downtown Computers, Hog ‘n Penny Pub, Lavender Hills Farm, Mariposa Market, The Bird House Nature Company, Wes Trinier and Wildflower Farm.
